Causes of High Blood Pressure

“For most people, there isn't one particular cause.”

- General Practitioner

“It could be hereditary sometimes. Other things that could affect your blood pressure include obesity and smoking. Sometimes it could be because the arteries are a little bit clogged.”

- Nurse Associate

“Probably the most common cause is age, blood pressure goes up with age for a lot of people.

It can be linked to who you are in terms of where you come from, and what genes you were born with.

These factors, in addition to poor diet (eg. one that is high in salt) can lead to an increase in blood pressure.

Some medical conditions may also cause hypertension, but these are less common.

This is why for most people, we say there isn't a particular reason or cause behind their high blood pressure, it's a combination of a few different things.”
